Welcome to our September 2025 edition of the Urban Splash Newsplash – your handy round-up of all the things Urban Splash
We’ve had quite the summer – from being appointed to take on Liverpool’s Festival Gardens, to welcoming broadcaster Kunle Barker to Park Hill; lighting up Lister Mills in Bradford, to celebrating 200 years at Royal William Yard. We’ve also welcomed new commercial tenants, twinned our toilets for global good, and put this month’s best homes and workspaces in the spotlight. Dive in for the details

We’re bringing Festival Gardens to life
We’ve had a super summer, topped off with some exciting news – Liverpool City Council has chosen us to take forward the plans for Festival Gardens. We’ll be teaming up with our friends at igloo Regeneration to bring the vision to life, creating a new neighbourhood that’s innovative, sustainable, and full of character.

Why Park Hill is a “model for our times”
A big thank you to writer and broadcaster Kunle Barker for a fantastic feature on Park Hill, Sheffield. In the Architects' Journal piece, Kunle reflects on the regeneration, saying: "What struck me most was a powerful sense of restoration – not just of the buildings, but of the idea. The original intent hadn’t been erased; it had been updated for modern life..."

Fighting fit with over 20,000 sq ft of deals
National gym operator Trident has chosen Matchworks in south Liverpool for its first North West site, taking a huge 19,098 sq ft on a 15-year lease at The Matchbox – the iconic fully glazed building at the front of the estate. Meanwhile, Bondi Pilates is bringing its boutique Pilates studios to Boat Shed at Exchange Quay in Salford, with a 1,943 sq ft space adding to its sites in Belfast and St Helens.

Lighting up Listers
This October, our Lister Mills building will be lit up as part of Bradford’s City of Culture celebrations. STRIKE – a spectacular light, sound and projection show by Urban Projections and Mek Summat – celebrates the radical women who shaped Bradford and beyond. The free event runs 3rd to the 5th October from 8pm to 10pm each evening, and with community events alongside.

Tea Factory goes global for a good cause
Our Liverpool Tea Factory toilets have had a makeover – and now they’ve gone international for a good cause! All 15 refurbished bathrooms have been paired with facilities in South Sudan and Mozambique through the Toilet Twinning programme which helps families adopt healthy hygiene habits and build their own facilities using local materials.

Celebrating 200 years at Royal William Yard
This summer we marked 200 years of Royal William Yard with the launch of a new interactive history trail and the 200 Exhibition. The exhibition, which will run from the 13th to 28th September, will showcase artefacts, documents, and stories from archives, historians, and the public, while the trail – now open indefinitely – reveals the Yard’s journey from naval hub to thriving destination.

CyanLines launches in Manchester
Our Chairman, Tom Bloxham CBE, will join Cllr Bev Craig, Leader of Manchester City Council, broadcaster Kunle Barker at Aviva Studios this week unveiling CyanLines – an ambitious plan to connect 100 miles across Greater Manchester. The vision will link city squares, parks, rivers, canals and viaducts, extending out to the boroughs to create a greener, healthier and more inclusive future.
