Meet US - 5 minutes with David Lewus
Since work began on its regeneration, 455 new homes, accommodation for 356 students and 50,000 sq ft of commercial space have been created at Park Hill, transforming the Grade II* Listed landmark into a thriving neighbourhood once again.
Few people have witnessed that transformation as closely as Sales Consultant David Lewus. Having spent more than a decade welcoming hundreds of residents into the community, David has been there through every phase of Park Hill's regeneration. Here, he reflects on the building's evolution, the community that's grown around it, and why he believes the best is yet to come.

From vision to reality
“It’s safe to say Park Hill has been on quite the journey since it was first completed 65 years ago. Originally created as a bold new vision for urban living, the building has become one of Sheffield’s most recognisable landmarks, with a story that’s constantly evolving. Having lived and worked in Sheffield for many years, I’ve seen attitudes towards Park Hill shift dramatically. What was once a divisive building is now celebrated for its architecture, its history, and most importantly, the community that calls it home.
“When I first joined Urban Splash in 2015, 76 apartments in Phase 1 were fully occupied, with the remaining 184 under construction. I came on board to sell the rest of the homes in the first phase, introducing buyers to Park Hill and bringing them in on the vision set out by Urban Splash, Hawkins\Brown and Studio Egret West.
“Our residents in Phase 1 were very much our early adopters. They believed wholeheartedly in what Park Hill could become again – a great place where people can live, gather and connect. Having seen the building and its new community develop over the last 11 years, I can confidently say this has been achieved.”

Changing perceptions
“After Phase 1 was complete, work began on Phase 2, this time with architects Mikhail Riches. The demand for homes in Phase 2 was massive – we had buyers queueing up outside the sales office from 1:30am the night before our sales launch for a chance to purchase the home they wanted, the phone was ringing off the hook, and we were inundated with enquiries.
“Unlike sales for Phase 1, buyers could see for themselves how Park Hill was evolving and it was clear people wanted to grab the opportunity to be part of it. There’s nothing else like Park Hill in Sheffield, so the chance to own a home in a place like this doesn’t come around often.”

A real community
“In my time working at Park Hill, I’ve grown close to the community and found it to be genuinely special. People gravitate here for entirely different reasons – whether it’s an interest in architecture and design, the connectivity to the city, the chance to live in an apartment, or simply because it feels different to anywhere else. But what’s always struck me is that, despite everyone having their own reason for moving here, people care about the building, they look out for one another, and they all want to be part of what Park Hill has become. I think we’re up to about 17 WhatsApp groups, various residents groups and resident-led tours of the building.
“All our residents know that my job doesn’t end once the keys are handed over. Of course, I’m always here to help with anything sales or rental related, but over the years it’s become much more than that. I’ve kept in touch with people from the very beginning, watched families grow, seen residents’ welcome friends and relatives to the building, and even helped people move to different homes within the building as their circumstances have changed.
“There’s always someone popping into the sales office for a chat or to say hello, and I think that says a lot about the kind of place Park Hill has become. It’s one of the most rewarding parts of my job and a reminder that we’re not just selling homes – we’re helping to build a neighbourhood that people genuinely want to be part of.”

The best is yet to come
“As we prepare to release the first homes available to purchase in the final phases of Park Hill, it really feels like we’re building on everything we’ve learned so far. I might be biased, but I think these homes offer the best of both worlds.
“They’re architect-designed, modern apartments within one of the country’s most iconic heritage buildings – something that simply couldn’t be recreated today. We’ve taken some of the most popular layouts from earlier phases, introduced entirely new ones, and refined the designs to make the homes work even better for the way people live now.
"At the same time, they stay true to everything Park Hill is known and loved for, with duplex layouts, dual-aspect living, exposed concrete, private outdoor spaces and light-filled interiors. I genuinely think these are some of the best homes we’ve delivered at Park Hill, and I’m looking forward to welcoming even more residents as the new homes are completed.”
