Urban Splash Newsplash - April 2026
Welcome to our April 2026 edition of the Newsplash – a round up of all things Urban Splash.
This month we've got lots of exciting development news, including the UK government’s £20m investment in Swansea, a deal to deliver affordable homes at Park Hill, and planning approval at Cole Brothers in Sheffield.
There's also news of a host of new commercial lettings, the launch of a new ferry at Royal William Yard in Plymouth, an interview with Bondi Pilates, a look back at this year’s MIPIM, and details of who’s attending UKREiiF this year.

The UK Government backs Urban Splash plans to transform Swansea
The UK Government has announced a £20m investment to support the transformation of Swansea’s Civic Centre – one of the sites we’re working on as part of our City on the Beach vision with Swansea Council. Speaking of the news, Chancellor of the Exchequer Rachel Reeves said the plans will make Swansea “a more attractive place to live, work and start a business in the years to come."

More affordable homes confirmed for Park Hill in Sheffield
We’ve agreed a deal to bring more affordable homes to Park Hill in Sheffield, with Great Places providing 30 of the 125 new homes. Backed by Homes England funding, work starts this month, alongside new public realm, EV charging, car club facilities, and secure cycle storage. This next phase continues to open up this iconic landmark to a wider community.

Planning approval for Cole Brothers in Sheffield
We’re thrilled to have secured planning for the Grade II-listed Cole Brothers building at Barker’s Pool, Sheffield – described by Sheffield City Council as “an important milestone.” Approved plans include ground-floor leisure, food, drink, and retail spaces, with upper floors providing flexible, high-quality workspace.

Where the community comes together: meet Bondi Pilates
Bondi Pilates founder Rebecca Adamson has opened her biggest studio yet at Boat Shed, our waterside workspace in Salford Quays. In a new interview and film, she said the space is “so adaptable,” adding her studio complements the mix with “a creative space where the community comes together.” The studio features 12 reformer beds, wellness classes, and community events.

More connections at Royal William Yard in Plymouth
Plymouth Boat Trips has launched the newly branded Waterlink Ferry, connecting our Royal William Yard with The Barbican and Saltash. The service will help more people visit our bustling Yard, with its monthly markets, restaurants, bars, shops, and events – including the Arcade Pop-up Market of independent makers, artists, and artisan producers, now open through Easter.

We’re at UKREiiF next month
A delegation from Urban Splash will be heading to UKREiiF in Leeds next month, including Tom Bloxham MBE, Suzy Jones, Nathan Cornish, Guy Ackerley, Simon Gawthorpe, David Warburton, Ben Thatcher and Rachel Thomas. We’re also proud to be sponsoring Rock@UKREiiF in support of LandAid – helping raise vital funds to tackle youth homelessness.

A look back at MIPIM 2026
Our colleagues were also in Cannes last month for MIPIM, where our Chairman Tom Bloxham MBE took to the stage alongside architect and TV presenter George Clarke for their Tale of Two Cities’: Regeneration, Renewal and Diverging Paths talk. Together, the pair shared insights on the regeneration of places close to their hearts – George on Sunderland, and Tom on our work transforming parts of Manchester.

Home of the month:
652 Copper Building, Bristol
Apartment 652 is in our Copper Building in Bristol – one of the UK’s coolest places to live. This two-bedroom lakeside apartment is unfurnished and available to rent now, ready for you to make your mark. The building sits within 10 acres of lush private gardens and next to Lakeshore, our iconic Grade II-listed former Imperial Tobacco headquarters and architectural landmark.

Space of the month:
3a(ii) Beehive Mill, Manchester
Unit 3a(ii) is an 867 sq ft space in Beehive Mill, located in Manchester’s vibrant Ancoats neighbourhood. One of the city’s longest-standing cotton mills, the building features exposed beams, original cast iron columns, and traces of its past as the iconic Sankey’s nightclub. It’s an ideal space for business, with neighbours including Rudy’s Pizza, Ancoats General Store, and Seven Brothers Brewery.
