Meet US - 5 minutes with Sian Stanhope
Our development team are responsible for bringing all our schemes to life, from Royal William Yard in Plymouth to New Islington in Manchester and everything in between.
Development Manager, Sian Stanhope, oversees our Sheffield sites – Park Hill and Cole Brothers – working with our partners to give the schemes a new lease of life.
We caught up with Sian to find out more about her day-to-day role, her personal highlights in her role, and what’s coming next as we continue shaping the next chapter of Sheffield’s cityscape.

From student to city shaper
“I joined Urban Splash a year ago, and what a journey it’s been so far! I was drawn to the opportunity to work on two huge Sheffield icons – Park Hill and Cole Brothers – after studying in the city and living here ever since.
My previous role was in the public sector getting projects up to the planning stages, so it was great to transition client-side where I could oversee projects right through to completion. It’s a privilege to play a part in creating the future of both Park Hill and Cole Brothers and take the projects forward for future generations.”

Responsible regeneration
“The people of Sheffield care deeply about Park Hill and Cole Brothers, and there’s a real sense of responsibility around reinventing each development in the right way.
“I’ve had the pleasure of getting to know the residents at Park Hill over the last year as we’ve prepared to start on site with Phase 4 to bring 125 new homes, new green spaces, EV charging, a car club and bike storage to life at the development. No one tells the story of Park Hill better than those who live there, and I appreciate how passionate they are about the community and its future.
“Park Hill is a great example of what we can achieve when we work closely with our trusted partners. We can’t do it on our own, and creating and maintaining relationships with our partners is key to our success in its regeneration, especially our joint venture partners, Places for People. My proudest moment so far has been securing £6.4m funding from Homes England for Park Hill Phase 4. This was a huge step forward, meaning we could press on with our plans to breathe new life into the brutalist building.”

An icon reborn
“There’s been a lot going on behind the scenes at Cole Brothers. Working alongside Sheffield City Council and architects AHMM, we’ve finalised our plans for the building from its potential future uses to how it will knit in with the rest of the Council’s Heart of the City masterplan.

“We’ve also welcomed people back into the building, including hosting Form – a one-day careers expo for students and graduates looking to explore careers in designing, building and managing the places we live. We’ve also hosted the BBC Sounds fringe events during Crossed Wires festival and our very own ChristmUS at Coles party with special guest DJs Jarvis Cocker, Richard Hawley and DJ Pipes. The car park ramp on the south-east corner of the building has also been given a new look, thanks to Kid Acne and Friends of Sheffield City Centre founder, Bridget Ingle.
“These events and activations are just the beginning of the future of Cole Brothers, and I’m really looking forward to working with our partners to deliver one of Sheffield’s most exciting regeneration projects to bring people, jobs and creativity right back into the centre of the city.”

Shaping the future
“Alongside my project work, I’m currently mentoring two Sheffield City Council graduates through the Assessment of Professional Competence (APC) process to becoming Chartered Surveyors, helping more young people and in this case, women, enter and thrive in the property industry.

“I’m also looking forward to sharing updates on our projects with the communities we work in and the wider industry. Over the coming months, there’s lots going on as we prepare for the Park Hill Phase 4 sales launch and progress the redevelopment of Cole
Brothers. Ultimately, it’s about shaping the future of Sheffield while ensuring our spaces remain vibrant, inclusive, and connected to the communities that call them home.”
