On Your Doorstep – Port Loop
Getting to know your local area is a big part of feeling at home, whether you’re home hunting or already settling in. That’s why we’ve been out and about exploring everything Port Loop and its surroundings have to offer.
So, whether you’re already living at Port Loop or just starting to build your own Birmingham bucket list, we’ve rounded up a few of our favourite nearby spots. From local eats and cultural gems to ways to get active by foot, bike or even kayak, keep reading to find out what’s just around the corner.

On the menu
Whatever your favourite cuisine, we can almost guarantee you’ll find something that takes your fancy close by. One of our personal favourites is Ciaro. Nestled on the edge of the canal, the family-run restaurant and deli brings the flavours of Italy to Birmingham. A deli by day and pasta and wine bar by night, there’s something for everyone – we highly recommend the fresh focaccia sandwiches.
Over at Brindleyplace, just a 10-minute walk from Port Loop, are some real gems from contemporary Chinese bar and restaurant, Lulu Wild to Tex-Mex fiesta, Perios. You’ll also spot all the usual fan favourites from Wagamama to Piccolino.

From steps to sails
If you love getting outside and exploring, you’ve got the wraparound canal network on your doorstep at Port Loop connecting you to Birmingham city centre and beyond – not only is the canal steeped in fascinating history – it’s pretty handy too.
Edgbaston Reservoir is only a five-minute walk from the development, too. Here, you can walk, run or cycle around the 2.5km circular loop around the water or try your hand at sailing and boating with the Midland Sailing Club and Birmingham Rowing Club. If you’re visiting at the weekend, don’t miss parkrun on a Saturday morning at 9am.

Speaking of water sports, kayak tours with Roundhouse are a great way to get some exercise in whilst exploring the city. The 2-mile tour takes you around key sites from Brindleyplace to Gas Street Basin with stories shared by the organisers.

Out and about
For the art and culture fanatics among us, you’ll want to check out Ikon Gallery. Located at Brindleyplace, the contemporary art gallery rotates multiple displays throughout the year with free entry available to visitors.
Over the road, you’ll also find the B:Music Town and Symphony Hall; a truly stunning venue showcasing all types of entertainment from chart-topping singer songwriters to comedy, dance and poetry.
In case arts and music aren’t your vibe, both the Legoland Discovery Centre and the Sea Life Aquarium are around a 10-minute walk from Port Loop. Sure to be family favourites, there’s plenty for the kids to get involved with from discovering the underwater world to catching a film at the 4D cinema.
