Profile
For two decades, Simon Gawthorpe has helped shape the built environment through his work at award winning regeneration company Urban Splash.
As Managing Director, Simon has been instrumental in delivering thousands of new homes and workspaces nationwide. Starting out as the company’s Regional Director for Yorkshire, he led some of the company’s most acclaimed projects in the past two decades, including the restoration of the Grade II* listed Lister Mills in Bradford, the award-winning Saxton development in Leeds, and the now-iconic regeneration of Park Hill in Sheffield. The latter – shortlisted twice for the Stirling Prize – remains a key focus, with Simon continuing to oversee its final phases, reaffirming Urban Splash’s long-term commitment to this landmark.
A skilled dealmaker and strategist, Simon has also played a central role in forging and strengthening strategic partnerships for the business. He was instrumental in delivering the government’s Kickstart programme, creating over 700 homes across the country; he led the successful portfolio sale and business restructure alongside director Julian Curnuck, and was a driving force behind establishing the transformative joint venture between Urban Splash and Places for People – a collaboration that includes the award-winning new neighbourhood at Port Loop in Birmingham and the aforementioned transformation of Park Hill.
Before joining Urban Splash, Simon worked at CBRE. A proud Yorkshireman, he lives with his family in the county.
