    Civic Centre regeneration

Welcome to our vision for Swansea’s Civic Centre.

Under the Town and Country Planning (Development Management Procedure) (Wales) (Amendment) Order 2017 Part 1A Section 2B, those proposing major developments are required to consult with members of the public and community and statutory bodies prior to submitting their planning application to the Local Planning Authority.

Since our appointment by Swansea Council as part of a 20-year strategic regeneration partnership, we have been exploring the redevelopment of seven city sites, including the Civic Centre on Oystermouth Road. The regeneration of Civic Centre is an important step in the ongoing transformation of the city.

Our vision for Swansea’s Civic Centre would reuse the existing building in its entirety, bringing it back to life as a vibrant, mixed-use space with new cafés, bars, and shops on the ground floor spilling out onto the seafront, along with apartments, workspace, an aquarium, an events space as well as creating up to 138 new homes.

You are invited to make comments on our proposals prior to the submission of the formal planning application.

It is important to note that this exercise is entirely separate from the statutory consultation that Swansea Council will conduct once the planning application has been submitted. The current process will not preclude you from making future comments and should you wish to do so, you may make further comments direct to the Council at that stage, for consideration by the Swansea Council.
