Local people gather for first glimpse of Civic Centre proposals
Hundreds of local people have already given feedback on early proposals for the redevelopment of Swansea’s Civic Centre.
New cafés, bars and beach-sports related shops as well as apartments, workspaces, a new aquarium and a dedicated events space are all being considered for the seafront site.
Award-winning regeneration specialists Urban Splash are working in partnership with Swansea Council to develop the plans, which were made available for comment at a two-day public exhibition in the city centre’s Y Storfa community services hub last week.
First Minister Eluned Morgan was among those to see the plans when she visited the Y Storfa development, which is part-funded by the Welsh Government’s Transforming Towns programme.
People who were unable to make the exhibition in person can see the proposals here and give feedback. More opportunities to help shape the proposals will also be made available in future.
Urban Splash was appointed by Swansea Council as part of a 20-year strategic regeneration partnership covering seven sites across the city, including the Civic Centre.
David Warburton, Development Director at Urban Splash, said: “It’s been fantastic to see so many people coming along to view the early proposals and share their thoughts — this kind of local insight is invaluable.
“These are really exciting times for Swansea’s seafront, and we’re at the very start of shaping something special for the Civic Centre site.
“This is very much a collaborative process, and there will be plenty more opportunities for people to have their say as the plans continue to develop over the coming months.”

“We’re committed to making sure local people remain at the heart of this project — with many more chances ahead for residents to help shape these proposals as they move forward.”
The Civic Centre proposals follow a series of recent Urban Splash initiatives, including the unveiling last autumn of plans for a riverside site in St Thomas.
That seven-acre scheme aims to deliver over 150 homes, half of them affordable, alongside a six-storey landmark building with commercial space at ground level, a central green street, shared gardens, improved river walkways, and over 3,600 square feet of mixed-use space for shops, cafés, or leisure.
