Urban Splash commences construction of Manchester's biggest lofts at Avro

    17 May 2018

Award winning regeneration company, Urban Splash, has commenced the construction of 31 loft apartments at Avro in Manchester – boasting some of the biggest floorplates in the city. The commencement of works also dovetails with the release of a brand new CGi showing buyers how the internal spaces will look.

The Grade II listed building, once known as Brownsfield Mill – the former home of pioneering aviation business AV Roe – is currently being transformed by Urban Splash, alongside architect Roger Stephenson. Steeped in rich, Mancunian history – LS Lowry once worked in the building and it was the place in which WW2 aircraft were built – it will soon be home to a new community of people.

Each home will embrace the building’s original fabric, with exposed brickwork, beams and cast iron; they will provide Manchester with some of the biggest, most interesting residential spaces that the city has to offer, with all of the reserved homes ready for occupancy in summer 2019.

Phase one completely sold out within 8 weeks following its launch late last year, and just a few homes in the recently launched phase 2 now remain. Urban Splash residential director Guy Ackernley explained: “We’re excited to have commenced construction works internally and to unveil this new CGI which shows how the completed homes at Avro will finally look; the most appealing elements for me are the fascinating interiors which take the best of the old, original features and fuse them beautifully alongside new aesthetics.

“The result is something very special.”

Avro takes Urban Splash back to its loft roots; 2018 marks 25 years of the company’s efforts in transforming buildings around the country, especially disused and unloved mill structures. Guy continued: “Brownsfield Mill was one of the last untouched mills in the city and I’m thrilled we’ve been able to unleash our creativity there.

“It’s in close proximity to lots of other great, transformative Urban Splash schemes like House at New Islington which sits just across Great Ancoats Street, as well as commercial buildings like Beehive Mill – the former home of Sankey’s Soap – and Waulk Mill.”
