Longlands resident joins Jack in raising funds

    20 September 2012

A local woman from Stalybridge is hosting a charity event this month in the hope of raising funds for the North West based charity Joining Jack.

Claire Mealing lives at the Longlands development on Castle Street in Stalybridge and is hosting a charity event in the new restaurant at the scheme. There will be a raffle, auction and other opportunities throughout the event to donate, with all proceeds going to the Joining Jack charity; an organisation that was set up to try and help a four-year-old boy through his struggle with the incurable Duchenne muscular dystrophy.

Claire said: “I really want to make this event work and would urge anyone from the local community to buy a ticket and come along on the night. I am so proud to be involved with this charity and would urge everybody reading this to just take a few minutes to read the heart wrenching story on Jack’s website and see what his family are having to prepare themselves for. If we can raise funds just to help a little bit in their plight I’d be so proud!”

The event will be held at Umeed’s restaurant – a new eatery which is based in the Mill building, one of two buildings at the Longlands scheme – on Thursday 27th September from 7pm. Tickets are priced at £20 and include an Indian banquet and live entertainment from Tameside band The Jokers Wild.

Developers of the Longlands scheme, Urban Splash, have also pledged their support and are donating raffle and auction prizes. Their director of sales Nicola Wallis said: “It’s so encouraging to see a resident at one of our schemes working so hard for a good cause. We really hope that Claire succeeds in bringing the community of Stalybridge – and wider Tamesde – together to make an impact and help Joining Jack reach their fundraising targets.”

The event will be accessible to more as Longlands is in the centre of Stalybridge, close to the train station and town centre. Anybody wishing to obtain further information should call Claire Mealing on 07754201157, visit the Facebook event page:http://www.facebook.com/#!/events/390569554340817/or Ellie Marsh at Longlands on 0161 850 0196.

Longlands fuses urban living and suburban surrounds across two buildings; the restored 19th Century Mill building and the adjacent Pattern House new build. Each building is surrounded by landscaped gardens and flanked by the River Tame and Huddersfield Canal. Homes here are fantastically designed; in the Mill they boast original features such as beams and brickwork, while in Pattern House floor to ceiling glazing gives residents amazing views of the Peak District, some of the homes are also spread across two floors. Each of the homes has a fitted kitchen, bathroom and some feature balconies.

The scheme stands in the centre of Stalybridge, close to the train station and town centre. Anybody wishing to obtain further information should visit http://ec2-63-34-210-119.eu-west-1.compute.amazonaws.com/residential/longlands
