    You're in good company

    Commercial workspaces

You’ll find brilliantly designed Urban Splash workspaces across the country – but did you know you’ll find lots of interesting people in them too…

From recognisable musicians, clothing brands, TV chefs - to cat cafes, wine bars and vegan burger bars - to bookmakers, couriers, design and web agencies, sound companies and video producers, charities, nurseries, to marinas and flotation tanks (yes really)!

Our portfolio boasts framers, builders, healers, wealth managers, universities, hairdressers, estate agents, mortgage companies, publishers, architects, clinics, consultants - even the odd regeneration company.

It’s fair to say we’ve welcomed some very interesting businesses and entrepreneurs into our portfolio. You can view the full list here, and read on to find out more...

...The music makers and big screen shakers

Urban Splash had a part to play in Manchester’s music scene back in the day; 808 State pioneered Acid House from Ducie House, while Simply Red and John Drape’s Ear to the Ground also started life in the building.

In Liverpool, our Ropewalks neighbourhood attracted a brilliant commercial community, including radio station Juice FM and Cream nightclub; while bands like The Farm, The La’s and Oceanic No1 single Insanity in 19 was recorded for under £100 in the building

Everyman Cinema will soon brings its boutique big screen experience to Melville at Royal William Yard too, while Liverpool FC TV broadcasted on the small screen from the Matchworks in South Liverpool.

    The ones who add flavour…

Foodies have flocked to our Urban Splash schemes over the years; TV chef Hugh Fearnley Whittingstall’s River Cottage was at Royal William Yard, nestled amongst a buzzing restaurant scene which also now includes Wagamama, Prezzo, Las Iguanas, Le Vignoble, Wildwood, Seco Lounge, organic bakers, coffee makes and brewers and more.

In Manchester, we’ve welcomed foodies – from super cool brands like Pieminster, to admirable start-up movements like North Tea Power and Mother Espresso. In Sheffield, South Street Kitchen’s tasty vegan flavours can be sampled at Park Hill, and at Smith's Dock in North Shields, 31 The Quay is the newest addition to the menu.

    The super impressive innovators…

From Forbes listed entrepreneurs like David Wolfe – whose mattress company Leesa was based in an Urban Splash Manchester scheme; to The Manufacturing Institute’s inventors’ laboratory – ‘Fab Lab’ –a long-term fixture at Chips in Manchester – to Plymouth “whizz kid” and South West entrepreneur Steve Wilkie, who has created dozens of jobs at Royal William Yard – home to his financial company Responsible Life. Meanwhile, tech brands like UKFast and ANS Software were born in Ducie House.

The ones here for a good time…

We’ve provided a base for some of the country’s big festival creators; Manchester Pride and Manchester Jazz Festival were both tenants of ours in Manchester.

Ugly Duckling – the business behind Manchester’s Warehouse Project and the Parklife Festival – operates out of Burton Place, next door to the Urban Splash head office at Timber Wharf, while The Prince’s Trust centre in Manchester is located in our Beehive Mill building, giving young people in Manchester a hub from which they can join in new opportunities, and Manningham Mills Community Centre is on the ground floor of our Lister Mills in Bradford too.

To the ones here for a healthy time…

247 Gym puts our tenants at South Liverpool’s Matchworks through their paces – and was at Fort Dunlop in Birmingham too, while South West Coast Path Association oversees miles of walkways around the Devon coast from its offices at Royal William Yard.

To some frankly, fascinating organisations like these…

    — At Matchworks in South Liverpool, you’ll find luxury fashion brand Twenty Fall which creates swimwear and resort wear; while at Royal William Yard Denitsa Avramova’s high-end fashion boutique Identity Fashion is another stylish addition

    — The Ministry of Defence was a tenant at Royal William Yard too, but we can’t tell you too much about that…

    — Ocean Studios supports new makers and designers at Royal William Yard, giving them an opportunity to sell their products to the public as part of its ground floor retail space

    — S1 Artspace is bringing a 600 sq m art gallery to Park Hill in Sheffield

    — Spaces operate a co-working space out of Tea Factory in Liverpool

    — FACT, the Foundation for Art and Creative Technology, also calls Tea Factory its home, featuring an arthouse cinema, galleries and café

    — Fort Dunlop’s vast workspaces were home to big businesses like Trinity Mirror and Capita and homewares retailer Dwell

    — Celebrity dentistry company Dental Excellence operate out of Matchworks

    — Paradise Works is a community of 35 artists based at Irwell Riverside in Salford
