Urban Splash safely returns to work – delivering ten modular homes in a week, and reopening sales offices

    21 May 2020

Having recommenced work at construction sites and its House by Urban Splash modular factory on 4 May, award winning regeneration company Urban Splash has announced the reopening of other areas of its business.

In a safe and swift return to work, the company delivered 10 modular Houses to Port Loop in Birmingham – a neighbourhood it is creating in joint partnership with Places for People – in just four working days this week. The House by Urban Splash homes were created factory in Alfreton in the East Midlands, were delivered to Port Loop, before being craned into place onsite.

Urban Splash also announced that sales offices across the country, including Port Loop as well as New Islington in Manchester, will reopen by appointment only this week. Colleagues and visitors will adhere to strict social distancing and hygiene measures, mirroring the rules brought in by Urban Splash on construction sites earlier in the month, with new signage in place, hand sanitising and the provision of PPE.

Chairman Tom Bloxham MBE said: “There’s been much encouragement from the Government this past week in getting the housing market moving. We’re excited to play our part in that, safely moving our business forward and, as we have done at Port Loop this week, creating new homes using modern methods of construction, which can be swiftly delivered to site.

“We have also taken the decision to reopen our sales offices; we have put measures in place to ensure that we can do this in compliance with the Covid-19 guidelines, and keep our colleagues and our customers safe. We will therefore be opening by appointment only; we look forward to welcoming customers back to our sites across the country in this way.”

Alongside the reopening of sales offices, customers can also continue to view homes via the Urban Splash virtual viewings platform which allows them to take tours of new homes from afar. 360-degree viewings of homes and workspaces at New Islington and Avro in Manchester, Port Loop in Birmingham, Melville at Royal William Yard in Plymouth and Park Hill in Sheffield are all available.

Urban Splash took an early stance in March, announcing the immediate closure of its sites, sales offices and factory amidst the UK lockdown – citing the safety of its colleagues, suppliers and subcontractors as a business priority. The company worked hard during that timeframe to find safe ways of working within Government guidelines, taking the decision to reopen sites a fortnight ago.

The company confirmed that non-site and non-sales colleagues will continue to work remotely from home, and that the five shareholding directors will continue to take a 30% reduction in pay during lockdown and while other colleagues remain on furlough.
