    Stubbs Mill

    Manchester

    A brilliant workspace

This former textile machinery mill was transformed by Urban Splash into 27,500 sq ft of workspace which was fully let to global sports brand Fanatics, who now base hundreds of staff here.

Originally home to the manufacturing company of Joseph Stubbs, a business that specialised in making textile machinery, Stubbs Mill followed the fate of many Manchester mill falling into disuse and decline. We partnered up with Nick Moss Architects (previously SixTwo) to charter a new course for the building, taking the decision to transform it into contemporary workspace, whilst also retaining the raw, industrial features that make mills like this so special.

We kept the exposed steel beams, brickwork and made a feature of Stubbs' striking North lit roof, which gave fantastic 4m ceiling heights and feature glazing - designed to maximise natural light throughout the building.

Just before we completed our transformation in late 2016, we secured a pre-let to global sports brand Fanatics, who took the entire space. Hundreds of Fanatics staff now work at Stubbs Mill, all of them benefiting from its awesome location in New Islington - with the Metrolink station adjacent to the building, while New Islington's Cotton Field Park, marina and other amenities are all just metres away. The neighbouring Chips building also features a private nursery facility - another appeal to people working in the area.

    Office fit-outs

We’ve done this before. Offices aren’t new to US - we love reinventing spaces to retain the best features & adding new facilites to bring things band up to date.

Developers with a difference, we aren’t here to rip it up and start again. We aim to revive buildings and places with outstanding architecture and a consideration for the past, present and future.

We work on the basis that redevelopment is more than bricks and mortar, it’s about using enlightened design, creating new communities and enhancing peoples’ lifestyles; it’s about building places that work for the people who live in them and the towns and cities beyond. As a result, we’re behind some of the most exciting urban regeneration in the UK.
