    Longlands

    Stalybridge

A community in the heart of Stalybridge

A juxtaposition of old and new, Longlands offers a range of homes and workspaces across two buildings - the lovingly restored, Listed Longlands Mill and the adjacent, new-build Pattern House.

The Mill at Longlands, a former cotton mill, has been transformed into 44 homes – a limited number of which remain available to rent – and more than 6,000 sq ft of commercial space.

Throughout, much of the building’s original fabric has been retained, with Urban Splash favourites of exposed brickwork and beams still present across the scheme.

The ground floor commercial spaces are ready for occupation now and give businesses a blank canvas on which they can stamp their brand. Available workspaces range from 1,870 sq ft - 6,243 sq ft with neighbours already in place including Umeeds restaurant.

Opposite the Mill, you'll find the Space Craft-designed Pattern House; the colourful facade of this new build is in stark contrast to the brickwork of the Mill, which makes for a juxtaposed architectural setting. Pattern House offers contemporary glazed space from 1,098 sq ft to 2,325 sq ft, perfect for office, retail and leisure uses.

On the upper floors, you’ll find 59 light and spacious apartments – some of which are available to rent.

Flanked by the River Tame and the Ashton Canal, this site’s got an abundance of outdoor space offers some surprising tranquility given the town centre location.

The amenities of Stalybridge town centre are literally metres away, with shops and restaurants, plus a fantastic train station with direct and regular routes to Manchester, Liverpool and Leeds all within easy reach. Parking is also available for commercial occupiers too.

The remaining workspace on offer here could be yours tomorrow thanks to our short form lease option - just four-pages of jargon-free text that cuts out the costs and commitment of a standard lease. Sound good? Talk to us today.

    Heritage

Longlands was the oldest surviving cotton mill in the area, Castle Street Mill, was built in 1805. It was a boom time for Manchester's textile industry and there were already eight mills in Stalybridge.

Founder George Cheetham struck while the cotton was high, adding to his four storey building with new spinning blocks in the 1820s.

But in 1896, the Boulton & Watt engines fell silent for the first time in decades, and it was another ten years before the Longlands Mill Company stepped in and revived the place. Longlands was a working mill until 1961, when the production of rayon put lots of cotton manufacturers out of business.

The place saw the birth, growth and death of an industry.

It's a beautiful building, full of the echoes of life and work.

We like to think that George Cheetham would be happy to know that we've found a new life for his mill, safeguarding its future. We wanted to pick up where the cotton industry left off, bringing this once thriving mill back to life.
