    Design Manager - Product

    The role

    The Product Design Manager will manage the design development of a range of house and apartment types within the House by Urban Splash range working closely and collaboratively with the Regeneration & Design Directors. They will be responsible for the development of the customer proposition for any product, understand the target markets and role within the wider House by Urban Splash range. The PDM will manage the process from concept development, through to detailed delivery.

    The role will require the Design Manager to liaise and work closely with the other business functions in House by Urban Splash, and develop our homes to meet the customer needs, factoring in inputs from other departments - future lab, land, development management, delivery, modular, construction, sales and marketing. The Design Manager will be responsible for bringing these aspects together through to successful roll-out of new homes. The responsibilities will extend to the improvement and refinement of the products as new technology comes forward, changes in legislation and in feedback from customer and market research. As a key member of the Product team, the Design Manager will be working closely with Future Lab on the implementation of our sustainability strategy, carbon reduction plans and any responses to future technology or societal impacts.

    The primary purpose of the role is to strengthen the product development and design management capability with House by Urban Splash design department. As part of the Design department; the Design Manager will provide the wider land, development, construction and sales teams with strategic design advice and detailed design management for the creation of highly regarded new homes that balance a wide range of complimentary and competing needs. This role is predominantly focussed on the detailed product development and design management of our new homes through to execution on site.

    Key responsibilities

    — Work with Design Director and Product Development Director to translate strategic design approach for products into detailed product solutions that can be taken forward for use on our sites

    — Work with Design Director and Product Development Director to coordinate approaches to construction technologies, sustainability, materials, specifications and service installations across the products.

    — Contribute to and manage the product design team, working closely with teams towards well-resolved, co-ordinated, and accurate information from internal stakeholders and external consultants

    — Liaise both with the ‘upstream’ land team and the ‘downstream’ delivery team on technical requirements for project information flow

    Qualifications and Experience

    — Great organisational and inter-personal skills

    — A good eye for detail and strong technical knowledge

    — They will be able to understand the technical interdependencies of the emerging designs and technolo-gies and help steer the project.

    — They will be an agile team player able to be a key figure coordinating, balancing and responding to input from across the business.

    — Evidence of having worked on the delivery of high quality contemporary residential projects

    — The candidate should hold a degree in a relevant construction discipline such as architecture, engineer-ing, construction management, or similar

    — The candidate should possess the ability to contribute to design team meetings positively and authorita-tively

    — They should be able to help steer product development programmes to successful outcomes in a timely manner

    — The candidate should possess commercial awareness and have experience working within budget con-strained yet ambitious project contexts

    — They will have an excellent understanding of the current regulatory landscape
